Port Pipavav glides on to fast track
100 pc rise in monthly rail movements
Container evacuation rates at Port now fastest in industry

Strategic placements at key locations & service enhancements pay off
Port Pipavav handled a record of more than 100 trains in July, registering a hundred per cent increase in rail movement over June.
Commented Mr Ashley Dinning, Chief Commercial Officer, "In April, we had announced new train services between Pipavav and the key North West India markets of Ahmedabad, Dadri, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Tughlakabad. We also increased the number of services and placed team members in key locations to look after our customers’ requirements. This is a result of our continued efforts to support our customers.
"We recognise that ‘speed’ and ‘timeliness’ impact our customers’ bottomlines and are deeply committed to supporting them to meet their targets quickly and smoothly," he added.
Port Pipavav has been steadily and surely enhancing its services over the last one year. In its bid to provide world-class services, Port Pipavav pioneered the concept of ‘double stacking’ containers on trains in India. Together with ‘double stacking’ and an increase in the number of trains, the Port has been able to transport a larger number of containers in a quick and efficient manner, making it possible for customers to meet their targets on time, every time.
Port Pipavav is also the only gateway port that has introduced reefer trains for the North West region, providing a viable alternative to Nhava Sheva, according to a release. More than 1,000 reefers have been successfully transported in the first quarter (April-June 2009).
"I am proud to say that Port Pipavav has the lowest rail pendency in the North West region," said Mr Ajay Verma, General Manager, Business Development—Delhi, Port Pipavav. "Thanks to the support we have received from the rail service providers at the Port, today we can claim that evacuation rates for containers at Port Pipavav is the fastest in the industry."
Port Pipavav has the additional advantage of being an all-weather port. This means that cargo can move smoothly throughout the year no matter what the weather conditions are. It has achieved a remarkable feat of substantial growth in volumes and services despite the effects of the economic slowdown faced by the industry.
